Studying the Scriptures (All Classes 8/28)

If you have already spent some time with these materials, come back and look again.  There is a lot of helpful info that will bless your scripture study.

What can I do to get more out of my scripture study?

"The scriptures are boring!"
"The scriptures are hard to understand."
"I don't get what the scriptures have to do with me."

Sound familiar?  Perhaps we have all said something like this at some point in our lives (or at many points).  Try these ideas to prepare for our next class but also to find your own answers to this question.

1) Get familiar with the resources on this blog.  There are multiple pages of help available to you at any time.  You can find links to my pages of scripture study helps in the right column (if you are using your computer) or at the bottom of this page (if you are using your phone). Here's what you will find:
  1. Need some Scripture Motivation?  This page is full of quotes from recent prophets and Church leaders to get you pumped about reading the scriptures
  2. Why should we read the scriptures? On this page you will find quotes that remind us why scripture study is so important.
  3. How to get more out of your scripture study  Tips and tricks for getting more out of your study. Also prophets give their advice for digging deeper into the scriptures.  Try using one new idea each day to keep your scripture study fresh.
  4. Liken The Scriptures Nephi gives us a powerful tool for improving our scripture study.  Using this simple chart will change how you look at the scriptures.
2) Use one of the ideas you learned from the material above as you read these verses:
Mosiah 1:3,5; Omni 1:17
3) Read this great quote from Pres. Monson:
“Spending time each day in scripture study will, without doubt, strengthen our foundations of faith and our testimonies of truth” (Thomas S. Monson, “How Firm a Foundation,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2006, 68).
