Ordinances and Covenants
Reading Assignment: Get caught up to Helaman 2 in your Book of Mormon reading AND read through the materials in the following learning activities so that you are more prepared for class on Friday.
Learning Activities:
1) Review the three principles from the “Acquiring Spiritual Knowledge” section of the Doctrinal Mastery Core Document: act in faith, examine concepts and questions with an eternal perspective, and seek further understanding through divinely appointed sources.
2) Review doctrinal topic 7, “Ordinances and Covenants,” in the Doctrinal Mastery Core Document, as well as the Book of Mormon doctrinal mastery passages associated with this doctrinal topic (Mosiah 18:8–10; 3 Nephi 27:20).
3) Deepen your understanding of our doctrinal mastery passages by doing some or all of the following:
- Rereading and marking these passages (Mosiah 18:8–10; 3 Nephi 27:20) and pondering more deeply on their meanings
- Imagine you are using these verses to teach someone why ordinances and covenants are important. What phrases have power for you? What do they mean? How could these verses help someone who is trying to decide if they should make covenants with God?
- Check out the resources for these verses on Book of Mormon Central (podcast, video, or article)
