Reading for class on Tues 3/12: D&C 110 (Don't forget to do the 2 minute devotional assignment as well--see below)
Additional reading to enhance your study:
“Young people, I ask you to participate in seminary. Study your scriptures daily. Listen to your teachers carefully. Apply what you learn prayerfully” (Thomas S. Monson, Aug. 12, 2011).
“The seminary programs will help you as a young man or woman to lay a foundation for happiness and success in life” (Richard G. Scott, “Now Is the Time to Serve a Mission!” Ensign, May 2006, 88).
2 Minute Devotional—Doctrinal Mastery Review
As you read this quote from Pres. Hunter. Ponder and respond to these 2 questions:
· How has Doctrinal Mastery helped you experience the truth of President Hunter’s words?
· In what ways have your confidence and understanding of the doctrinal topics increased?
“We want … students to have confidence in the strength and truths of the scriptures, confidence that their Heavenly Father is really speaking to them through the scriptures, and confidence that they can turn to the scriptures and find answers to their problems and their prayers” (Howard W. Hunter, Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Howard W. Hunter, [2015], 282).
1) Your assigned Doctrinal Mastery Passage: D&C 82:10 (You can pick your own DM passage if you want)
2) Look up your doctrinal mastery passage. Read it through carefully and review the rhyme and keywords for that passage.
3) Use what you read and review to prepare a 2 minute devotional based on your scripture. Writing your answers to the following questions may help you prepare.
a. What does this scripture teach? Why do you think it was chosen as a Doctrinal Mastery passage?
b. What phrases stand out for you in this scripture? Why are they important to you?
c. What additional help can you get from the footnotes? Are there other scriptures we should link to this one?
d. Can you find a quote from a modern prophet to help explain this scripture? What did you learn?
e. What is this doctrinal mastery passage challenging us to do?
4) Prepare to share your scripture and your answers to these questions for your devotional. Give the class a challenge or invitation to act based upon your scripture.
I would like these prepared for class on March 12, but we will continue to use them after that.
